Indian sweets — mithai — are their own dessert culture, evolved over a thousand years across regions, festivals, and family traditions. Each region has its specialties: Bengal's rasgulla and sandesh (delicate cottage-cheese sweets), North India's gulab jamun and jalebi (fried-and-syruped), South India's mysore pak and payasam (ghee-and-jaggery), Maharashtra's modak, Gujarat's basundi. At Pastry Corner Cafe & Lounge in Chantilly we make most of ours in-house from scratch, the way they're made in India: khoya (reduced milk solids) cooked down for hours rather than bought from a bag; syrups balanced for sweetness so the sugar serves the sweet, not the other way around; ghee from real butter, not vegetable shortcuts. Year-round we stock gulab jamun, kala jamun, rasgulla, gulab jamun rabri, kheer (rice pudding), kaju katli (cashew fudge), motichoor laddu, besan laddu, jalebi (weekends), and milk cake. Festival-week specials: modak for Ganesh Chaturthi, kheer for Karwa Chauth, mathri-laddu boxes for Diwali, kheer-laddu boxes for Eid. Catering trays for events from birthday parties to weddings. Mostly vegetarian, mostly contain dairy, mostly gluten-free unless flour-based.

Are Indian sweets vegetarian?
Nearly all are vegetarian — most are milk-based (khoya, paneer, ghee) or grain/legume-based. We don't make any meat-containing sweets.
Do you do festival sweets?
Yes — Diwali, Eid, Holi, Raksha Bandhan, Karwa Chauth, Onam, Ganesh Chaturthi. Pre-order 1–2 weeks ahead during festival weeks; we sell out.
How long do they keep?
Syrup-soaked sweets (gulab jamun, rasgulla, jalebi) keep 5–7 days refrigerated. Dry sweets (kaju katli, laddu, mysore pak) keep 1–2 weeks at room temp.
Gluten-free options?
Most milk-based sweets are gluten-free (gulab jamun, kheer, rasgulla, kaju katli, laddu). Jalebi and certain flour-based sweets are not.
